KICKBOXING VS MUAY THAI ?
Muay Thai is the combat sport and martial art with ancient roots springing from the tribes and land of Thai, the word which is believed to mean independence.Thai people until these days believe that they are "the land of free", referring to the fact that Thailand is the only country in their region never conquered by European power.
Muay Thai - the national sport of "the land of free" - is also decribed as the art of eight weapons: it uses not only hands (boxing), feet (kickboxing), knees (K1) but also elbows.
Often raised question is if kickboxing, K1 and Muay Thai are the same or different sports. They are profoundly different. Kickboxing originates in kyokushinkai karate with the boxing gloves. First of all, they differ in the foot work. Kickboxing is based on "jumps" whereas muay thai style is basically a "walk" Kickboxing and Muay Thai were combined in K1 - where knees are allowed. But in K1 there is still 3 big NOs compared to Muay Thai: NO leg catch, NO clinch and NO elbows.
